The French Riviera

< Back |

Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur is one of the 22 administrative regions of France. It comprises of 6 ‘Departements’: Alpes Maritimes, Alpes de Haute Provence, Var, Hautes Alpes, Bouches du Rhone and the Vaucluse.

Côte d'Azur is the French name of the French Riviera. People do tend to argue a lot when it comes to deciding where the French Riviera starts and where it ends! The Alpes-Maritimes certainly are part of it. For the rest, we shall leave it to you to decide …

This is a region we know extremely well and we love. And there is no question that it is its exceptional climate and the presence of the Mediterranean and the Alps that make for an ultimate destination.

The Côte d'Azur offers so many unforgettable moments … the chance to smell unique scents in the world perfume capital of Grasse, to walk along the magnificent coastal path of Antibes, to dream on the red carpets of the Croisette in Cannes, or to blow beautiful coloured glass in Biot …

The Côte d'Azur and its coastline offer some of the most amazing sceneries in the world with kilometres of beaches, inlets and marinas in Theoule sur Mer or Roquebrune Cap Martin.

The climate, the famous ‘douceur de vivre’ and French way of living, attracts an extremely diverse tourist clientele but also people who decide to relocate on its shores.

First class hotels mix with charming rural gites, Michelin star restaurants in Mougins with local restaurants, Provençal markets, chic boutiques, independent shops and local crafts in Valbonne.

For centuries, the heart of Provence has been the focus of many paintings, books, poems, with the likes of Picasso, Chagall, St Exupery amongst others, and more recently the author Peter Mayle with his popular autobiographical ‘Year in Provence’, describing life during his first year with so much wit!

And this amazing diversity carries on with the ski resorts less than two hours from the seaside, offering some of the best skiing in France with high altitudes and favourable weather conditions. Valberg, which is less than an hour from Nice remains the best resort for the little ones and first skiing experiences, with more than 90km of ski slopes.

With extremely favourable weather condition and higher altitudes, Auron or Isola offer kilometres of skiing in the sun, skiing on the Côte d'Azur, what a treat!
